Father's Day: where does it come from?

Like every year, parents are honored with a celebration specially dedicated to them. Today we invite you to discover the history and origin of Father's Day.

Unlike Mother's Day, Father's Day has its roots in the Christian religion. Initially, it is a celebration of Joseph, born in the 15th century. It is set for March 19, six days before the Annunciation, by the Catholic calendar. It sank into oblivion at the beginning of the 20th century, only to be brought up to date in 1950 by a Breton company which was looking for an idea to improve the sales of its… gas lighters!

A masterstroke which will perpetuate this festival in France and which will be recorded for good in 1952 by an official decree.
